Upcoming Litter--CD x Whicket
All four colors possible. Taking deposits now.
I have been searching for an outcross for several years. I am always
searching for the great dog out there somewhere that is yet undiscovered
and not closely related to everything else. And there he was, right
down the road! I can't say I even found him, because his owners, Brian
and Toni Rhodes, actually found me two years ago when they bred a 3/4
sister to this dog to our Smokey. I saw CD then and even watched him
work but on a 100 plus degree day there was not a lot to watch as he
brought the roping calves in. A recent trip to the Rhodes who are about
30 miles from me made me quite sure I had found the dog I had been
looking for. I watched CD (short for his registered name, Youngs Cow
Dog) go out across about big pasture, move some cows with calves out of
their shade (we are again in August in Texas) and take them down into a
corral. They were reluctant to go and he was controlled and confident
in moving them and confronting a challenge. Not to mention, this is a
very correct conformation dog with a pretty head and expression, and most
of all a wonderful temperament. He is Brian's personal dog and goes
everywhere with him. I would say from what I saw that he could compete
at Open level without further training.
CD has an inbreeding coefficient of 4.76 which is very low and is an
outcross on Whicket. These puppies will not be closely related to any
of the popular bloodlines.
Whicket herself is pretty equally balanced on working both heads and
heels and has a nice low key personality. She is very well made.
Her brother Smokey has produced
some really top working ranch dogs, and titled trial dogs (two of them
straight from the ranch). Since I prefer a calm easy
going personality, Whicket is a favorite because of her easily trained,
no nonsense way of dealing with things. Her mother, Whitney, is my
chosen house dog and a very important part of my life. Whicket is
indeed from my line of "Sweet" dogs.
