For the past 35 years, I have been involved in some area of public education. My public education career ended in June 1996 after having served fifteen years as Co-Ordinator for Special Education at a Central Texas school district.
During those fifteen years, I directed the growth of the Special Education enrollment from 251 students to 422+ (a 62.9% increase during the last six years of my stint as co-ordinator at the end of the Spring Semester in 1996.
Prior to being named to the Supervisor position, I was an Educational Diagnostician in that same school district.
For the 12 years from 1963 to 1975, I worked at a North Texas I.S.D. Teaching experience includes reading, language arts, and English from first through twelfth grades. Following two years as a classroom teacher of English, I was asked to establish a Remedial Reading program (Title I/Chapter I) in all of the elementary schools in the district. This resulted in my becoming Elementary Supervisor and later Director of Special Services (Special Education and other remedial programs).
Along the way, I completed requirements for several professional teaching certificates as well as a Master's degree from Texas Christian University. At the time I left that school district, I had taken several pre-doctoral courses attempting to qualify for enrollment in a doctoral program at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.
