How Do I Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.1 under Windows 3.x

Microsoft Internet Explorer 2,1 for Windows 3.1 is combined WWW browser ftp client, mail reader, and news reader. It includes complete PPP dialing capability for establishing a connection through your telephone to the Internet.

To install Microsoft Internet Explorer 2,1 for Windows 3.x, follow these instructions:

Create a temporary directory on your hard drive
In File Manager, create a directory using the File, Create Directory command.

Copy the contents of all the distribution floppies to that directory
In File Manager, use the File, Copy command and copy all files from a:*.* to the directory you created.

Run Setup.exe
In File Manager, double click on setup.exe.

The following screen appears:

Read the license agreement carefully. Click on 'I Accept' to continue.

The following welcome screen appears:

Click on OK to continue.

The following registration screen appears:

Enter your name and organization into the appropriate blocks and press OK.

If the displayed information is correct, press OK to continue.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of Microsoft Internet Explorer, the following screen appears:

If you want to install over the existing version, click on OK. If you wish to install this new version and keep your old version installed, click on 'Change Directory' and select another directory to install the software in.

Click on OK.

The following screen appears:


You can click either on the Complete button or the Custom button. If you don't want the software installed in the designated directory, click on Change Directory to specify another.

It is recommended that you click on Complete.

Choose a Program Manager group to add the Microsoft Internet Explorer icons to.

Click on Continue.

After the installation programs copies all the necessary files, the following screen appears:

It is recommended that you let the system detect what kind of modem you have. This process may take several minutes.

After you hit Next >, the following screen should appear:

If the system successfully detected your modem, your modem type should be highlighted. If the system was unable to detect your modem, choose the modem make and model from the list. If your particular modem is not listed, choose a standard modem of the same speed.

Click on Next >.

The COM port your modem is connected to should be displayed. If it is not, choose the appropriate COM port.

Hit Next >.

The following screen should appear indicating the installation was successful.

Once you hit Finish, you will get the following screen:

It is necessary to restart your computer before continuing.

Once the computer boots and Windows is running, you should see the following items in the program manager:

Continue the installation with the document "How do I make a connection using the Microsoft Internet Explorer 2,1 for Windows 3.x?"

You may now delete the temporary directory you created to start the installation.
