The Glen Rose Redwoods project:
I've never been much of a gardener, but for Christmas 2001, I was given a Sequoiadendron Gigantum (giant sequoia) seedling.  Perhaps since I am from California, the gift really touched me and I decided to do what I could for the little fellow.

2002 was not a good year for redwoods from California.  My coastal redwood seedlings all died soon after sprouting.  The giant sequoia grew until June and then stopped.  By the end of the summer, it was almost dead.  I blame the heat and high pH water.

This year, my Redwoods are local members of the family
Taxodiaceae.  See my post on germinating Bald Cypress for details.

I spent time looking into the ability of Montezuma Cypress (T. Mucronatum) to grow in this area.  The specimen I found in Fort Worth and Austin did not look very healthy, so I've dropped that project for now.

A local Christmas tree farm is growing Leyland Cypress and Arizona Cypress.  I will probably be trying these out, later in the year
