Finally, success! I have 5 healthy bald cypress seedlings. I've transplanted them (with peat pots) into larger pots. A 6th seedling died after transplanting. It was in a paper cup and didn't survive the operation of being removed from the cup and placed in the soil. It looked ok until the afternoon sun wilted it the next day. Also, seeds that germinated in paper towels died after being buried in soil. My guess is that exposing the baby roots to air is lethal.
