They were married 25 September, 1869, in Alcorn County, MS; however
Alcorn County was not formed from Tippah and Tishomingo Counties until
1870. Rachel's surname was spelled "Grissom" in "Early
Alcorn Co., MS Marriages (OldTishomingo Co.)" compiled by
Dorothy L. Murray.
Hamilton: Hamilton S. & Rachel
Savage were listed in ED. 25, Fannin County , TX, in the 1880 US Census. From the birthplace of their 3 sons, it
appears that Hamilton & Rachel came to TX about 1873, which was a
few years before Rachel's brother James Lemuel came. Family
tradition holds that Rachel's younger brother, Robert Richard
"Dick" Grisham came to Texas with Rachel and her
husband. "Dick" later told his children and
grandchildren that he had to walk most of the way to Texas wearing a
dress because of shortage of clothing for boys.
