PARENTS: Andrew Jackson Grisham and Gillie Mason nee Olive

17. Martha A. "Mattie" GRISHAM (4.Andrew2, 1.George1)  married Robert Henry MITCHELL on 5 May 1866, in Tishomingo County (now Prentiss County ), MS.  Robert Henry MITCHELL, a Baptist preacher, was born 13 February, 1841, in South Carolina.  Robert died 25 March, 1901, near Rosston, Nevada County , AR, and was buried in  Union Cemetery, near Rosston, Nevada County , AR.  Hattie Grisham wrote to my mother, Clara Elsie Fergusson Crain, 24 September, 1964, and identified Martha as "Mattie" which was a common nickname for Martha.

Robert served in  CSA Co. G, 3 Battalion, 33rd Reg. of MS Infantry. He was in the MS Infantry from Nov., 1861 to May, 1865. On an assignment in Nov., 1863, he took 3 troopers with him to apprehend deserters. Could this have been the deserters who murdered his  future father-in-law--Andrew Jackson Grisham, Sr.

Robert probably moved his family to AR about 1868. The first of their 13 children was born in MS.

Martha ended her own life after years of mental illness.
