ELIZABETH GRISHAM
OR
ELIZABETH MASON
BORN: 1838 in TN or AL
DIED: Perhaps in June, 1862
PARENTS: Mr. Mason with Gillie Olive as her
step-mother
or
PARENTS: Mr. Mason
and Gillie (Olive)
Mason
HUSBAND: Isaac G. "Black Ike"
Grisham
14. Elizabeth (or MASON) GRISHAM (4.Andrew2,
1.George1) born 1838, AL/TN,30
married Isaac G. "Black Ike" GRISHAM on 27
January, 1859, in Tishomingo County MS,27 Other: By J. G.
Irvine, JP, Isaac G. "Black Ike" GRISHAM was born 26
August, 1837, Lawrence County , TN, (son of __?__
GRISHAM and Nancy __?__) and
died 05 June, 1927, Henderson County , TX. Elizabeth died before 1863.
Elizabeth committed suicide after accidentally administering the wrong
medicine to her baby and causing its death.
ELIZABETH MAY
HAVE BEEN the daughter of GILLIE's first
husband--and hence may have been the Elizabeth Mason who married Isaac
G. Grisham on Jan. 27, 1859, in Old Tishomingo County , MS. Gillie
was only 14 years older than this Elizabeth. It is possible
that Gillie was Elizabeth's step-mother.
According to a
letter from Hattie Grisham to Clara
Elsie Fergusson Crain on 24 Sept., 1964, Gillie married a Mr.
Mason before she married our ancestor. Hattie also identified
our ancestor as "Isaac"
instead of Andrew Jackson Grisham. Surety for marriage was H.
A. Hickman.
Isaac: This Isaac was called "Black
Ike" to distinguish him from his first cousin, Isaac C.
called "Red Ike." "Black Ike" had black hair
and "Red Ike" had red hair. "Black Ike"
enlisted in the Confederate Army on Mar. 6, 1862, 3rd LT, Co. B., 32
Regiment, MS Infantry.
There is a possibility that Elizabeth and Isaac
G. assumed the care and responsibility for the orphaned children of Andrew
Jackson and Gillie (Olive) (Mason) Grisham, following their
tragic deaths. This could have added to the confusion the younger
children (who came to Texas) had in remembering the names of their
parents. IF
Elizabeth and Isaac G. took in her orphaned half-siblings, THEN
Andrew Jackson Grisham, Sr. was murdered before June, 1862.
Children:
i Nancy Mahala "Minnie" GRISHAM born
28 October, 1859, died 19 July, 1860.33
ii Mary M. GRISHAM born 11 March, 1861, died 11
June, 1862.34 Elizabeth (or Mason) Grisham killed herself
after accidentally killing her baby by administering the wrong medicine.
