The Cowhouse Missionary Baptist Church of Christ was founded on 7 July, 1879. Over the years the name in Associational Minutes of Hamilton County Baptist Association has fluctuated between Cow House and Pottsville. Since 1947 this church has used the name Pottsville Baptist Church. Early records listed W.J. Hicks as the first pastor. Pottsville Baptist Church celebrted its centennial on 10 June,1979.1
For many years Cowhouse Baptist church met in the school. In 1903, the Bratton familly deeded the current property to the church. A building was soon erected on the premises.2
Cow House Baptist Church was listed as a member of Hamilton County Baptist Association in 1882. (Associational minutes for 1879-1881 are not available at this time.) The twelfth annual session (1888) of HCBA was held with Cow House Baptist Church at Pottsville. Annual sessions were also held at Cow House/Pottsville in 1905 and in 1948. Pottsville Baptist Church was admitted to the Hamilton County Baptist Association on 25 August, 1920.3 Cow House Baptist Church at Pottsville was admitted to the Hamilton County Baptist Association on 2 August, 1945.4
A building fund was began in 1945. In 1946 work on the new building was began with much of the work was done by church members without incurring any debt. These two factors combined prolonged the completion of the new building for 19 years.5
