Carlton Baptist Church


Carlton Baptist Church was organized in 1878. There were 23 charter members. The first pastor was R.M. Crumbie. The orignial one room building was built shortly after the church was chartered.

In 1917 the second building was built. The pastor at the was A. Woods.

The church contiued to to grow until the late 1930's. The Sunday School averaged 300 in attendec.

In the 1940's the population of the community began to decline, this also affected the church. A baptistry, running water and other improvements were also added during this decade.

The educational building was built in1953. A new organ was obtained in 1958.

A new piano and other improvents were made in the 1970's. The bell from the orignal building was also remounted.
