"Hey all you Elisha descendants...do we have proof as to where he was born?

What about this:

"letter to a genealogy magazine "Heritage Papers" that was submitted by Illene Thompson of Huntsville, Alabama in 1972.

She starts the letter "Elisha Barrington and James Barrington settled in Edgefield County, South Carolina, about 1785. Elisha married Abigail Roberts, daughter of John Roberts. Elisha lived in Edgefield County until his death in 1851." She goes on to talk about Willis and his

family and does not mention James again."

Notes for WILLIS BARRINGTON:

The following information was graciously shared by Sherry Crowell from information shared by Ilene Thompson:

In Ilene's notes, she writes: " I am sending copies of the Bible owned by Willis and Cebelle Barrington. This Bible lists the marriage of Willis and Cebelle Mathews Barrington. I have always thought of this as Cebelle's Bible because it was sold at her estate sale. However, it was probably Willis' Bible as it lists his parents, Elisha and Abigail Roberts Barrington, but does not list her parents. By the time I received a copy of the Bible, it was about 160 years old. It was sold to a son-in-law, a Coe in 1840, and was still owned by a Coe in 1970. Unfortunately 30 years later, I have no idea what happened to that Bible."

I was able to locate the land that Willis purchased on a Henry County, GA

map that gives district and lot. As soon as I can get my hands on a county

engineering map I'm planning to go down and take some pictures. It's

probably just a open field but it's still so neat for me to actually walk on

the same ground my ancestors did a hundred or more years before."

From Gary Barrington:

"... in Edgefield and found plats of Elisha's main farm where his home used to stand. It is a peach orchard now .... Based on the plat, the house should have stood right next to mine creek...near the center of the acerage. I didn't get in that far....the house I'm sure is gone but a gentleman who is

a "Lott" and probably in his early 70's remembers the house and believed there was a family cemetery next to it. Maybe that is covered up too, but maybe not."[barrington, from sherrycrowell.GED.FTW]
