The congregation was formed by local settlers in the 1850's.  The first known pastor was the Reverend J.H. Perry in 1870.  Among early members were the families of Isacc Steen, J. Hogue Pierson, J.R. Eidson, Thomas Dean and Dr. George F. Perry.

Pioneer ministers in the Waco Circuit braved hostile Indians to serve this church.  In 1871, a band of Indians stole the horse of William Monk at Indian Creek, forcing him to walk twelve miles to Brownwood.

Members worshipped in various places, then built a frame church on this site about 1887.  The present structure was erected in 1924 and the Sunday School wing was added in 1953.

OUR CHURCH HISTORY

Information taken from the Highlighter—June 1976

A new Christian Flag and United States Flag were purchased from contributions in memory of Dr. C.C. Cleveland. The flags were dedicated in his memory as part of the 10:50 a.m. worship service on June 13, 1976. June 14 was Flag Day and it was felt that this would be an appropriate time for the dedication.

Dr. C. C. Cleveland was a well loved local doctor and long time faithful member of this Church. Dr. Cleveland’s wife, Irene, was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George Perry, who are memorialized in stain glass in our sanctuary.
